Through storytelling, history, and orientation, participants connect to the spirit, purpose, and values that animate Jesuit ministries around the world.

1491 – Birth of Ignatius of Loyola in the Basque region of Spain.
1534 – Ignatius and companions take vows in Paris, forming the foundation of the Society of Jesus.
1540 – Official approval of the Society by Pope Paul III (Regimini militantis ecclesiae).
1541 – Ignatius becomes the first Superior General.
1548 – First Jesuit college opens in Messina, Italy.
1556 – Death of Ignatius; 34 Jesuit schools already established.
1622 – Canonization of Ignatius by Pope Gregory XV.
1773 – Suppression of the Society by Pope Clement XIV (Dominus ac Redemptor).
1814 – Restoration of the Society by Pope Pius VII.
1965–1975 – General Congregations 31 & 32 embrace faith and justice mission.
1995 – GC 34 emphasizes global mission and social justice.
2016 – Arturo Sosa elected during GC 36; focus on discernment and Universal Apostolic Preferences (UAPs).
2013 – Election of Pope Francis, the first Jesuit pope.
